How to Be Who You Are in the 21st Century

What up Survivors?

So you know that scene in Lion King when Mufasa is all like, “Remember who you are?”.

Well, that’s what we’re gonna talk about today. This concept is pretty tough considering that it’s hard to even define what it means to “be who you are”. However, we’re gonna do the best we can.

So, what does it mean to be who you are? In it’s simplest definition, it just means being your natural self. The raw version of who you are. Embracing your best qualities and using them to be who you want to be. That’s still pretty confusing so we’re gonna clarify it by giving an example of the opposite.

Everyone should know what it’s like to not be who you are. Being fake and being someone else than you know yourself to be. Understandably, people want to avoid this feeling.

So how do you do that? How do you be a genuine, real person? How do you stay true to yourself? For me, the single thing that has worked the best is constant reminders. For me, that’s a tattoo on my right arm. Every time I look down, I see a slap in the face that screams, “Be who you are”. It’s like my own personal Mufasa.

Now, that’s pretty extreme. I’m not at all suggesting that you get a permanent image inked onto your skin for eternity. Unless you really want to, to which I say go for it. Otherwise, this reminder can come in many forms. Maybe it’s daily meditation focused on thinking about who you are, whatever that may mean to you. Or maybe it’s just looking in the mirror everyday and making a commitment to be your genuine self. It could be a favorite quote, a song, etc. that reverts you back to your raw state instead of constantly pretending to be someone else.

All this is easier said than done, but if you consistently remind yourself everyday, it’ll naturally seep into your subconscious. Before you know it, it will be effortless.

Keep Surviving.

Your Friendly-Neighborhood Best Friend,

KC ❤
